The association «Zollitag» was founded out of the youth project “Mittagsfrisch”. Mittagsfrisch was founded in 2010 for young people in the region Laufental-Thierstein. In the beginning, it provided the opportunity for students from the local high school “Gymnasium Laufen” to meet every other week for a lunch. During the lunch, they could exchange ideas and talk about everything under the sun. The goal of the project was to bring people from different backgrounds together and provide a surrounding in which everybody feels welcome.
The joint lunches received a positive feedback by many, which led to the addition of a monthly evening activity called “Mittagsfrisch@night”. These included movie nights, sports tournaments, game nights, and field trips in the closer area. Little by little, a circle of leaders evolved with a strong connection between each other. Their mission was to spread the solidary mission of “Mittagsfrisch” and to share their support with other people. As part of thisdeas, events such as Christmas surprises, a Gala dinner and a beneficial concert were held. With this mission in mind, 2019 we had the idea to organize a big event to spread awareness of poverty in Switzerland. Due to our limited capacities, we knew early in that we needed a partner with the required infrastructure for our plan. We were looking for a location with a target audience as large as possible. Soon we realized that the local zoo, “Zooli Basel”, would be an excellent partner. The animal park could be gained as a host for our plan. It is a big part of the event for it to be organized.
The organizing committee is now supported by countless volunteers. We still welcome new volunteers who want to back our project. There are also still positions open in the committee for people who are especially dedicated.
We say a huge THANK YOU to all our volunteers who do their part to make this brilliant event possible.
